GROUP FAULT NIGERIA’S INSECURITY TO ABSENCE OF LEADERSHIP, DEMAND FOR SCRUTINY AHEAD OF 2023

A Coalition for Good Governance says Nigeria’s rising insecurity and economic devaluation are evidence of the absence of leadership, calling for cogent action ahead of the 2023 general election.

The National Chairman of the Coalition Engr. Okey Chikwendu disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja.

He said the negative state of the nation with almost 100% devaluation of the Naira has continued to threaten the common citizens, thus contributing to the crime rate and disunity in the country.

The non-ethnic, religious, and governmental organization is comprised of members of the political class, ranging from national chairmen, presidential candidates, youths, and market women from the 36 states and the FCT.

Aimed at fostering unity and development while ensuring that only credible and tested candidates are voted into power in the upcoming 2023 general elections, in order to meet the immediate needs of the citizens.

They are optimistic that getting it right will require proper scrutiny of candidates, hence addressing the near-collapse of the country’s educational system for national cohesion.

While speaking, the national chairman Okey Chikwendu harps on the urgent need to restore the nation’s constitutional order so as to deliver a good, and impeccable governance.

Adding that the essence of the coalition is to announce the best and rightful candidate who is devoid of ethnic and nepotism to enable Nigerians to make the right choice so as to counter past challenges.

“Our organization is greatly equipped and r

eady to achieve the following:

  1. Foster greater national unity, peace, and good governance which is achievable by encouraging only qualified and capable candidates to be selected for elections into the various available elective positions.
  2. To encourage the promotion of equity, fairness, and justice in our national institutions to foster the harmonious relationship amongst the various ethnic nationalities in our dear country.
  3. By engaging in massive grassroots political, civil mobilizations, and enlightenments to make certain that honest and credible candidates are elected to run the affairs of our nation come 2023.
  4. To organize training, workshops, and town hall meetings to enlighten and sensitize our citizens to hold elected officers accountable for their actions and inactions.
  5. To work in partnership with national assembly and state assemblies towards the enactment of more people-oriented bills in line with our internal needs and to meet international best practices.
  6. To provide constructive criticism of government actions, policies, and projects and to proffer solutions to identified problems.
  7. To work with the other organizations and agencies towards achieving total restructuring of Nigeria which is an indispensable step towards becoming a more progressive, stable, secure, and united Nigeria.
  8. To provide a platform for nominated candidates of all interested parties to market themselves to Nigerians.
  9. CGG shall give INEC a good run for her money by assuring that no aspect of the electoral Act 2022 as Amended is compromised and that all elections conducted by INEC are seen to be free, fair, and credible
  10. CGG will engage any government of the day to ensure that government projects and appointments into appointive positions are evenly spread across the six geo-political zones of Nigeria.
  11. CGG will work with security and intelligence agencies to combat crimes by gathering credible information and intelligence through its local branches to assist them in fishing out criminal elements and their hideouts.
  12. CGG will take legal actions where and when necessary to achieve any of her set objectives.”

Meanwhile, the National Leader of the Coalition Chief Frank Igwebuike, noted that the aim is to put a check on the excesses of political office holders, thereby allowing the citizens to hold them accountable over any bridge of the constitutional order for the dividends of democracy and good governance.

“I emphasize that we are going to work assiduously to make sure that very credible candidates regardless of party affiliations are mobilized for, supported in our collective patrimony.

Inputting a check to the excesses of anyone voted into offices and power, we have to get it right from the very beginning.”

Also, the Coalition National Adviser, Barr. Godson Okoye stresses that part of the problem currently witnessing in Nigeria is a lack of national interest, hence the need to nurture these candidates on policies that will benefit the masses.

“The lack of national interest is part of the problem of the country, we are going to bring out those things that will help to nurture national interest in whatever policy or whatever decision members or people that are in governance take in order to achieve the necessary democracy dividend.

With our world of experience in the political terin, we’ll always bring in things that are very positive and of course the kind of positive change Nigerians need, in the past seven years there was a mantra for change and all that, but Nigerians know better as it is now.”

Earlier, Chief Sam Eke, the Director-General of the coalition said what Nigeria needs at the moment is a candidate that has created wealth without the use of public funds, stressing that it is only a private-driven economy that can change the narrative for international best practice.

“Candidate that has created wealth on his own, not just using government position and using government money.

Have you been able in your own capacity as a private businessman to create employment that has generated income for the youths?

Because we’re looking forward to seeing an economy that will be private driven, we don’t want an economy that will be so based on one source of income oil, other nations of the world are thinking outside the box and Nigeria cannot be left behind.

In this crusade we’re pushing forward the youth is highly recognized and they’re included in whatever thing we’re doing, they’ll be reflected as time goes on, even we’re going to bring up someone that’ll represent the interest of the youth at the national, state level, at the local government level, they’ll be fully be represented.”

The coalition, therefore, pledges its unalloyed support to the Independent National Electoral Commission towards achieving a credible, free, and fair election in the country.
