NIGERIA FLOOD PREPARATION: EU TO PROVIDE €70,000 SUPPORT TO REDUCE  IMPACT

Ten thousand (10,000) people are to benefit directly from the European Union   €70,000 Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF), while  25,000 more will be benefiting indirectly in Nigeria.

This fund will be provided to strengthen the country’s Preparation For Floods  particularly as this year begins with a high flooding period in Nigeria.

In a statement signed by the EU’s head of humanitarian aid, Bart Witteveen Tuesday 9, August 2022 in Abuja.

It said they are aiming at supporting  “The Nigerian Red Cross Society to increase capacity and preparedness to reduce the impact of likely floods in the states of Ondo, Kogi, Kebbi, Anambra, and Cross River.

“This will be done through increased community awareness, prepositioning of stocks, mapping of evacuation centers, and hygiene promotion.

“In the past decade, especially during the last three years, there has been an observed pattern of flooding in Nigeria, with floods becoming the second most recurrent hazard affecting the country, after the epidemics.”
