A Rotavirus vaccine Immunization has been launched by the Federal Government of Nigeria to aid the control of mortality death.
Speaking at the launch of the vaccine the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire represented by the Director of Public Health, Dr. Morenike Alex-Okoh said it is an Expanded Programme on Immunization, EPI aimed at averting about one hundred and ten thousand deaths in children under the age of five in the next ten years.
According to him, ninety percent of such deaths occur in developing countries inclusive of Nigeria.
Ehanire said death related to diarrhea amongst others will be tackled with support from donors and partners, especially GAVI for a period of ten years to ensure that every child Nigerian is safe.
Meanwhile the Country Representative of the World Health Organization, WHO, in Nigeria, Dr. Walter Kazadi Mulombo, pledges continuous commitment to providing technical support to the introduction of the Rotavirus Vaccine into the Routine Immunization Schedule and other health interventions in Nigeria.
Earlier, the Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, NPHCDA, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, recall the investment of Introducing the Rotavirus vaccine with regards to economy saying it seeks to scale up the number of lives saved.
