The Director-General National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT) Prof. Usman Aliyu has vowed to tackle cancer challenges and ensure a dramatic improvement in the healthcare of citizens in Nigeria.
In a statement to congratulate Nigerians, especially, the Muslim Ummah for completing the Ramadan Fast, Eid-El-Fitr celebration on Monday, 24th April 2023.
Prof. Usman said it is a call for all to take health issues seriously while urging regular checks to enable early detection and treatment of diseases, especially, cancer before it reaches an uncontrollable stage.
“It is a well-known fact that cancer is treatable and curable especially, when detected early, hence, I, therefore, urge Nigerians to visit any nearby health facility for checks when they have any abnormal feelings in their bodies.
“I, therefore, urged Muslim Ummah to imbibe the lessons learned during Ramadan and continue to remain supportive of all cancer patients and their relatives. This is necessary because cancer treatment/management is capital-intensive.
“Particularly, I felicitate with cancer patients, their relatives, doctors working in the cancer space, health advocates, and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO), wishing them many more returns of such a blessed season.” The DG is optimistic that as NICRAT begins work, their earnest preparedness will surmount threats to improving cancer research and treatment in the days ahead.
