The Department of State Services (DSS) has unveiled its gender mainstreaming policy to enable a comprehensive framework for gender inclusion in the service.

The service Public Relations Officer Peter Afunanya Ph.D., disclosed this on 11th May, 2023 in a statement.

He said the homegrown policy was launched on 9th May 2023, at its National Headquarters, Abuja to effect the agency’s policies, programs, and procedures as part of its commitment to promoting gender equality in line with the  UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the National Gender Policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

At the event, Director General of the DSS, Alhaji Yusuf Bichi represented by the Director of Administration, Mr Kabiru Sani hinted that the policy was aimed at promoting gender equality and creating a work environment free of discrimination and bias.

“We recognize that gender mainstreaming is essential to achieving this goal and we are proud to launch this policy as a demonstration of our commitment to this cause.”

Commending the initiative, The Minister of Women Affairs, Paulin Tallen urged other ministries to emulate the Service by making gender issues their topmost priority to counter discrimination.

The DSS is the leading security agency that embraced the gender policy in Nigeria, and so enjoined all and sundry to embrace the new policy and ensure its full implementation at every level of decision-making.
