ECOWAS PARLIAMENT TO PRESENT TWO RESOLUTIONS FOR ADOPTION BY THE COMMISSION

Members of the Economic Community of West Africa State Parliamentarians have presented two resolutions bordering on draft regulation relating to the adoption of the ECOWAS work regional program 2026 and the draft regulation relating to the adoption of the ECOWAS regional action plan on the elimination of child labour and forced labour 2021-2030.

The resolution is prior to the critical engagement of stakeholders with a call to show the true reflection of Article 13 of the Revised Treaty establishing the ECOWAS Parliament to address the gaps in the ratification of conventions and protocols relating to the International Labour Standards.

Presenting the resolutions for adoption before the MPs at the closing of three fruitful weeks of the first ordinary session of the ECOWAS Parliament in Abuja, Hon. Rosa Lopes said Article 9 of the supplementary Act relating to the enhancement of the powers of the ECOWAS Parliament and Article 15 of the said supplementary Act giving powers to the parliament to pass resolutions in the exercise of its mandate.

Furthermore, mandates the speaker of the ECOWAS parliament to forward the said resolutions to the president of the ECOWAS commission for adoption.

The essence is to support the implementation of international labour standards and gender mainstreaming into labour and employment across West Africa to eliminate issues of inequality in the region.
