The Consul General of Nigeria’s Consulate office in Shanghai, China, Chimezie Ogu has charged Africans doing business in the Yiwu community, Zhejiang province not to dangle into exporting fake, expired, and sub-standard goods and products to Africa to promote standardization in the region.

He gave the charge during an end-of-the-year ceremony organized by the African community in Yiwu, today 22nd January 2024.

Consul Chimezie stated that substandard products could contribute to the destruction of African markets and economy, as well as jeopardize the life and health of African people.

the African community in Yiwu to learn and adopt the best practices and experiences in their host city in China and to ensure that quality and best products are exported to their African countries, thereby contributing to the development of the respective economy.

He therefore advised the African community to exhibit exemplary character and live harmoniously as an ambassador in their host city and as representatives of African cultures.

They are the mirror that reflects the quality and the level of African human development in their various places of business in China.

Consequently, Ogu uses the medium to appeal to the government of the Republic of China to reconsider the high tariff imposed on agricultural export products to China.

Stressing that Nigeria’s inability to export and trade agricultural produce from Nigeria to China is caused by the Chinese authority’s classification of Nigeria as a developed economy and as such imposed more than two digits taxation on goods and products from the country.

This regime of tariff should be revisited by the Chinese central government in Beijing to allow Nigerian businessmen and their Chinese partners to participate in the new Chinese global digital economic promotion

The occasion was aimed at officially having a roundtable discussion between the Nigerian representatives in Shanghai and the businessmen in Yiwu.
