FEBRUARY 3RD ELECTION: INEC EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER INSECURITY IN SOME STATES

SAYS RE-RUN ELECTIONS ARE DISRUPTIVE, SEEKS SECURITY AGENCIES’ COMMITMENT

Concerns have been raised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over reports of insecurity in some states where elections are expected to be conducted next week 3rd February 2024.

The election had a total of 39 constituencies translating to 2.6% of the 1,491 Constituencies for which elections were conducted nationwide in the 2023 General Election, as some candidates and their supporters began to gather momentum of disruptive behavior

In a Meeting with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee On Election Security (ICCES) at the INEC Headquarters, Tuesday 23rd January 2024, in Abuja, the Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu said re-run elections are usually handful with severe disruption by thuggery and called on the ICCES members to ensure security and avoid violence determining the outcome of the election.
