The Department of State Services (DSS) has urged political parties and their supporters to shun violence to enable a smooth re-run of elections this Saturday 3rd February 2024.
A statement by Peter Afunanya, Ph.D., Director, PR and Strategic Communications Department of State Services National Headquarters, Abuja 2nd February 2024 said there is a need for all parties involved to be of good conduct during and after the exercises and avoid acts capable of causing a breakdown of law and order in the affected state.
He noted that it’s a call on them to adhere to the electoral act and procedure to enable accountability and fairness.
Beyond the elections, the DSS urges citizens to be patriotic and loyal to the Nigerian nation. Public commentators, social critics, and key players in the public space should consider the country’s peace over and above their personal or group interests.
Similarly, the Media, Civil Society, and Community-Based Organizations are encouraged to shun divisive tendencies and fake narratives likely to undermine national order. It is unarguable that it is only if there is a LIVEBLE country that individuals, groups, or corporate bodies can pursue and realize their legitimate businesses and ambitions.
The Service further charged disastrous individuals to desist from such and vows to work proactively with the electoral body, other sister security and law enforcement agencies, and stakeholders to ensure a hitch-free election to achieve the desired stable and peaceful country.
