POLICE REFUTE NLC RAID CLAIMS, REVEAL HIGH-PROFILE CRIMINAL PURSUIT

The Nigeria Police Force has refuted allegations of raiding the National Secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in Abuja’s Central Business District.

Refuting the claim by the NLC’s Head of Media and Public Relations, in a press release on August 7, 2024, over police officers accompanying perpetrators in black T-shirts and plain clothes, stormed the Labour House.

An official statement signed by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on 9th August 2024 clarified that the operation in question was not targeted at the NLC or its Secretariat. Instead, detectives, backed by appropriate legal authority, were in pursuit of a high-profile criminal suspect traced to a shop within the building that houses the NLC.

He added that the suspect, a foreign national, is implicated in a string of criminal activities spanning Nigeria and several other African countries.

“The police emphasized that the operation was meticulously planned and executed with the sole objective of apprehending the suspect, who had been using the rented shop within the building as a front for his illicit operations.

The NLC Secretariat, its staff, and leadership were not involved or targeted in the operation.The Nigeria Police Force has called for the continued cooperation of the NLC leadership as the investigation progresses.”

Muyiwa further stresses the importance of the case to national and regional security.

“The suspect’s activities are considered a significant threat, making his apprehension and the ongoing investigation vital for the safety of the nation.”
