The Nigeria Police Force has strongly denounced recent reports suggesting that some Police Inspectors in Uyo staged a protest over unpaid salary increments. l
Labelling these claims, as propagated by a group of journalists, as mischievous and unfounded, with a deliberate attempt to tarnish the reputation of the police.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja. 17th August 2024, in a statement, said the publication is based on a misinterpretation of private conversations between some police officers and journalists, which were wrongly reported as a formal protest.
“The Police emphasized that grievances within the Force are addressed through established channels, maintaining the discipline and professionalism that the Nigeria Police is known for.
The Force also clarified that the responsibility for salary disbursement lies with the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), under the Federal Ministry of Finance, not the office of the Inspector-General of Police.
The misleading reports, appear to be an intentional effort to malign the reputation of the Police Force and its leadership.
Police authorities urged any officer facing payment issues to consult with their box keeper or MSS Officer, who can liaise with IPPIS desk officers for resolution. It stresses that no officer in Akwa Ibom State or elsewhere has staged a protest over salary matters, as there are clear procedures in place to address such concerns.
“The Inspector-General of Police has encouraged all personnel to direct any welfare-related issues to the appropriate authorities within their commands, rather than resorting to actions that could harm the image of the Force.
Furthermore, the Police called on journalists to verify their information before publication and avoid spreading baseless stories that could damage the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force.”
