DSS DENIES ALLEGATIONS OF SERAP OFFICE INVASION

The Department of State Services (DSS) has debunked the widespread reports claiming it unlawfully raided the offices of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) in Abuja and Lagos. 

 

The DSS in a statement released today, 10th September 2024, said these allegations are not only false but also deliberately misleading.

 

It clarified that a team of two unarmed operatives had visited SERAP’s Abuja office as part of a routine and lawful investigation, adding that the agency’s visit, which was carried out under standard protocols, had been misrepresented as an illegal raid aimed at harassing and intimidating SERAP officials.

The visit was nothing more than a traditional inquiry. the DSS stated,

The service, however, stressed that such operations are customary and fall well within the bounds of legality. 

 

While assuring the public of its relentless effort to conduct a thorough investigation into the source of these “malicious” reports and encouraging citizens to play an active role in supporting national security efforts.

 

It, therefore, urged the public to dismiss these false narratives and reaffirmed the DSS’s commitment to professionalism in carrying out its duties.
