INEC UPLOADS RESULTS, CONDEMNS THREATS TO COLLATION PROCESS

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the upload of results from 192 Wards into the Result Viewing (IReV) portal, stating that collation has been concluded in most Local Government Areas.

It added that officials are either at the State Collation Centre in Benin City or on their way.

Announcing the progress of the collation of results for the Edo State governorship election in a statement by Mohammed Haruna, National Commissioner and Member, Information and Voter Education Committee on Sunday, 22nd September 2024 said the commission will expedite action to ensure the conclusion of the election despite concerns over reports of threats to its office in Okpoba Okha Local Government Area, which led to a stampede and the injury of an official.

The commissioner noted that this concern has further aggravated tensions ahead of the final collation, rising from the overnight protests by political actors and their supporters at the State Head Office.

These actions are uncalled for

No one will be allowed to benefit from lawlessness.

INEC reaffirmed that the collation of results will proceed following the Electoral Act 2022 and established regulations stressing that there are appropriate channels to address complaints, including the power to review results declared under duress.

INEC, therefore, urged security agencies to maintain vigilance and professionalism to ensure the peaceful conclusion of the election process and assured accredited party agents, observers, and the media of unimpeded access to all collation centers.
