Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has urged African police forces to forge stronger regional bonds to combat the continent’s growing security challenges.

Speaking at the 12th Steering Committee Meeting of the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL) in Algiers, Algeria, Egbetokun advocated the cause of regional unity in tackling serious threats like terrorism, human trafficking, and cybercrime.

Representing the West African Police Chiefs’ Committee (WAPCCO), Egbetokun addressed a gathering of top police leaders from across Africa, along with officials from AFRIPOL and the African Union Secretariat.

Stressing the urgent need for a cohesive strategy to safeguard the future of the continent through collaboration.

As regional police organizations, we must stand united, share our expertise, and implement strategies that will make Africa a safer continent for all its citizens. Egbetokun affirmed.

The two-day conference, held from October 29th to 30th, aims to foster cross-border partnerships and develop actionable solutions that strengthen the security framework across Africa.

However, through the exchange of expertise and strategies, AFRIPOL leaders hope to reinforce a unified approach to reducing crime rates and building a resilient security network across the continent.
