By Vincess Okushi

The Nigeria Police Force, in a major crackdown on cybercrime, has arrested 130 individuals, including 113 foreign nationals primarily from China and Malaysia, alongside 17 Nigerian collaborators, for their alleged involvement in hacking operations and activities, signalling a threat to national security.

The arrest followed a coordinated raid on a high-rise building in the Next Cash and Carry area of Jahi, Abuja, where the suspects reportedly used sophisticated technology to carry out cybercriminal activities.

The operation, executed on Saturday, November 3, 2024, was led by Assistant Inspector-General of Police Benneth Igweh, with officers from the Nigeria Police Force Zone 7 Command and the National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC).

A statement by the police authorities on November 3, 2024, revealed that the raid was a meticulously planned effort aimed at dismantling a suspected network involved in large-scale cyber attacks.

Following the arrests, the Inspector-General of Police ordered a comprehensive investigation, with a particular focus on any security risks posed by the suspects’ activities.

We are thoroughly investigating the matter and will scientifically analyze all evidence recovered. said ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer.

Our findings will be shared with the public, and the suspects will face charges once investigations conclude.

This bust is part of Nigeria’s commitment to combating cybercrime and protecting its digital infrastructure, as law enforcement intensifies efforts to counter technological threats across the country.
