The Federal Government of Nigeria has commended the Republic of Ghana for fulfilling its promise to reconstruct and hand over a building belonging to the Nigerian High Commission in Accra.
The handover ceremony, held on November 20, 2024, was led by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Botchway, and attended by key diplomatic representatives from both nations.
The property, a block of four-bedroom flats, was demolished in 2020, a controversial move that strained relations between the two countries.
However, following a series of diplomatic engagements, Ghana pledged to rebuild the structure, a promise now realized.
This reconstructed building is more than just bricks and mortar; it is a testament to the enduring spirit of cooperation and mutual respect between our nations. said Ambassador Chimezie Ogu, who accepted the keys on behalf of Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In a statement from Abuja, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the gesture as a “laudable step” in mending ties and fostering mutual trust.
Ghana’s commitment to resolving past issues and strengthening relations is highly commendable. Noted Acting Spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa.
The restored building is expected to serve as both a practical asset and a powerful symbol of goodwill, portraying a renewed era of collaboration between Nigeria and Ghana.
