The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Bishop Stephen Adegbite, has called on intending pilgrims from Delta State to be exemplary ambassadors of their state and Nigeria during their pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan.
Speaking at the screening exercise for the 2024 Main Pilgrimage in Asaba, Bishop Adegbite, represented by the NCPC South-South Zonal Coordinator, Nkaiso Edemenang, emphasized the importance of protecting the image of the state and the country.
He warned against any attempts to abscond, stressing that such actions could tarnish their reputation.
The pilgrimage is an opportunity to showcase the values and integrity of our nation. Let your conduct reflect positively on Delta State and Nigeria. Adegbite stated.
He assured the pilgrims that the Commission is working closely with the Nigerian Embassy in Israel and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure their safety throughout the journey.
The Federal Commissioner for NCPC South-South, Chief Prince Weli Wosu, reiterated that the pilgrimage is a spiritual exercise, not a business venture.
He urged the pilgrims to focus on seeking divine intervention for themselves, their state, and the nation.
This journey is sacred. Approach it with reverence and commitment. Wosu advised.
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by the Commissioner for the Bureau of Special Duties, Etagherure Terry, also addressed the pilgrims, urging them to pray for the peace and progress of Delta State and Nigeria. He highlighted the importance of discipline and adherence to guidelines during the pilgrimage.
Let this pilgrimage be a moment of deep spiritual reflection. Pray for our leaders, our state, and our nation. Remember, your behaviour speaks volumes about who we are as a people. the governor said.
He also advised those with health challenges to reconsider their participation for their well-being.
The State Executive Secretary, Rev. Fr. Christopher Ekabo, outlined the criteria for successful screening, which include medical checks and verification of passports by immigration authorities.
He disclosed that 250 pilgrims from Delta State are expected to embark on this year’s pilgrimage.
This is not just a journey; it’s a spiritual mission. Let’s make it count. concluded Edemenang.
