Yusuf Tuggar To Steer Critical ECOWAS Ministerial Meetings In Abuja

Focus on Good Governance, Security, And Regional Development

Abuja is poised to take centre stage in West African diplomacy as Nigeria’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, leads two high-profile ECOWAS meetings this week.

These gatherings aim to tackle pressing challenges and chart a path for sustainable progress in the region.

On Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Tuggar will preside over the 53rd Meeting of the Mediation and Security Council at the ECOWAS Commission headquarters in Abuja.

The session will zero in on peace and security, two pillars critical to the stability of the sub-region.

Kimiebi Ebienfa, Acting Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement issued on Tuesday, December 10, highlighted the significance of these gatherings for Thursday and Friday, December 12-13, as Minister Tuggar takes the helm of the 93rd Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers.

Stressing that the session will bring together top decision-makers to address key issues, including good governance, regional development, and strategies to foster stability across member states.

These meetings are crucial as they provide an opportunity for us to collectively chart a course for sustainable development, peace, and prosperity across our sub-region. Ebienfa noted.

The outcomes of these discussions are expected to shape ECOWAS policies and initiatives in the coming year, reaffirming Nigeria’s leadership role in regional cooperation.

As West Africa grapples with challenges ranging from political instability to economic hardship, all eyes are on Abuja this week.

Hoping that these sessions deliver actionable solutions to promote peace, growth, and a unified vision for the region’s future.
