Mourns Victims
In response to the devastating tanker explosion at Dikko Junction along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has directed all State Commissioners of Police to reinforce their Motor Traffic Divisions (MTDs) to enforce traffic laws more strictly and prevent further tragedies.
The tragic incident, which occurred on January 18, 2025, claimed over 73 lives, left many injured, and destroyed several properties.
Expressing his deep condolences to the government and people of Niger State, the IGP described the explosion as a “heartbreaking loss” and called for urgent measures to ensure road safety compliance.
The lives lost in this tragedy serve as a painful reminder of the need for strict adherence to safety measures. the IGP stated through Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
Dr Egbetokun urged vehicle owners and drivers to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and comply with traffic regulations to prevent further disasters.
He emphasized the collective responsibility of transport operators and the public to maintain safer roads.
The IGP assured Nigerians that the police will intensify efforts to improve highway safety and prevent similar incidents in the future while praying for the souls of those who lost their lives in the tragedy.
