Pledges To Strengthen Regional Security
In a significant transition of leadership, Major General Godwin Mutkut has officially assumed command as the new Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
The handover ceremony took place on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the MNJTF Headquarters in Farcha, marking a new chapter in the fight against insecurity in the Lake Chad Basin.
Taking over from Major General Ibrahim Ali, whose tenure saw major strides in counterterrorism and regional security, Major General Mutkut expressed his commitment to building on these successes.
I am honoured to take on this responsibility and committed to consolidating our gains while addressing evolving challenges. He stated.
Meanwhile, the outgoing Commander, Major General Ali, praised his successor’s extensive operational experience and deep understanding of the region’s security dynamics, expressing confidence in his leadership.
I have no doubt that Major General Mutkut will lead MNJTF to greater heights. He remarked.
Major General Mutkut, a battle-hardened officer, who previously commanded Sector 3 of the MNJTF and the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, both known for their crucial roles in combating insurgency.
His appointment serves as a renewed commitment by MNJTF member states to confront the persistent security threats in the region.
Major General Mutkut’s vast experience and strategic approach are poised to steer the MNJTF towards achieving greater stability and peace across the Lake Chad Basin.
